London Wine Scene: Amazing NZ Pinot Noir Tastings, Denbies Wine Estate

It’s too hot to cook! These days I’m living on watermelon, cheese and ice cream, and occasional BBQ picnic. So, to fill the gap, I thought I’d write up a post about my experience while I’m still savouring in my mouth the flavours of delicious Indian, Thai, Italian, Spanish, French, Hawaiian food I scoffed down, while drinking copious amount of wine around the busy London city. First, I’ll start with my exam, because I know so many people are curious about it. The first classroom day was exciting to finally confirm that the fellow students, whose names appear at random online, were human not computer-generated avatars. After the exam and a short break, tasting workshops started and we evaluated a series of wines according to SAT (systemic approach to tasting). I really need to give credit to Chris, my level 3 instructor, for the very helpful SAT sheet he created. The students at my table rushed to take a photo of! A lot more emphasis was put on assessing the quality of each wine compared …

Slow Food…11 Hour-Cooked Duck and Sweet Potato Sage Gratin Cheat

It’s been quite a while after the last post about after the Korean event, it’s been full-on but mostly because of me cooking Korean food and socialising offline. I had many people requesting for a Korean dinner and ended up cooking Korean food nonstop for two weeks. I’ve never cooked so much Korean food in such a short period, which was a good exercise to review my Korean palate but also meant that I didn’t have interesting recipes to write about. I’ve had enough of making dumplings and rolling kimbap. Having said that, I’m not sure when the full stop will be removed as I see growing enthusiasm for Korean food after the event so I’m thinking of creating some Korean-inspired recipes occasionally. The downside of Korean food is that it’s very difficult to match it with wines …

Salmon Leek Carbonara -Quick&Easy

It’s been dull and grey for a week or two here; just as well that I’ve been doing a fair bit of work on the computer. While spending more time online than usual , I’ve been discovering an unusual phenomenon regarding the ever-growing and ever-changing culture surrounding wine. For a start, Wine Folly, which is like a wine guide for dummies, is a new generation wine geek site, integrating technologies and entertainment into wine education, using visual effects, videos, Facebook and Twitter. Now you are beginning to see more and more wine blogs reaching out to wine drinkers across the globe through social media. It is quite revolutionary, but on the other hand, I couldn’t help but to question this new trend, so called “Digital Wine Communication”. What is funny though, is that the blog, Miss Vicky Wine, that was passed on to me by a French friend of mine a long ago is one example of the trend. And EWBC, which hold conferences around the world and whose last event was held in Turkey …
